The team behind Blue Cactus Press is small and diverse. Our team members are working artists who regularly produce and perform content in their chosen mediums. Christina Butcher is a Queer Chicana poet. She’s a veteran from New Mexico with a passion for storytelling and community involvement. She lives in Tacoma, Washington, where she writes and works as a bookseller at King’s Books. She’s also a teaching artist with Write253, a youth literacy non-profit. Christina’s debut poetry collection, Still Clutching Maps, was published in 2017. Her poetry has appeared in Creative Colloquy, Frontera (forthcoming) International Poetry Review (forthcoming), Papeachu Issue 3, Timberline Review, WA129+, and Milk Gallery. Christina’s journalism has appeared in City Arts, Grit City Magazine, Hilltop Action Journal, OLY ARTS, The Ranger, VOICE Magazine and Weekly Volcano.

Kate Threat is a mixed race writer from the D.C. area. She recently graduated from the University of Puget Sound with a BA in Art History and English Creative Writing and is passionate about social activism and how the arts can promote and highlight social change. She has worked with the Tacoma Art Museum and Write253 and is a big fan of taking on more hobbies than she realistically has time for.

Kate is passionate about generating and maintaining safe and encouraging spaces for young artists to learn to express themselves and share their art! In addition to her forever-dream of being a published writer, she wants to work with contemporary artists of all kinds and foster more sympathetic and earnest communities through art. 

 Graphic Designers

Zach Curtis is a multimedia artist from Colorado who has been creating art and media since 2010. Zach graduate from UW Tacoma in 2015 and began working for the University immediately after, running their multimedia lab. Zach tries to create art whenever he can, ranging from animations, videos, and paintings. When the sun’s out, Zach spends all his time and money spray painting stencils on whatever he can.

Sam Tait is a non-binary designer and Illustrator. Sam is a graduate of Northwest College of Art & Design, and they’ve been working as a freelance creator for over five years. They’ve worked with Write253 and the Tacoma Public Library, and enjoy spreading art through education and storytelling. When they aren’t teaching or volunteering with local youth, Sam advocates for other LGBTQA+ creators and runs The Gayng, a queer Dungeons and Dragons group.
