Publishing 101

Date/Time: Saturday, April 13th| 1 – 4pm
Location: 1901 Jefferson St, Office #105, Tacoma, WA
Cost: $100 (Scholarships available)

Join author, entrepreneur, and BCP founder Chris/tina Vega for a half-day, in-person workshop outlining the main components of book publishing for those interested in self-publication. Workshop content includes:

  • An overview of different publishing models — self-publishing/entrepreneurial, traditional publishing, and hybrid publishing — and the costs and benefits of each route.
  • A breakdown of essential components of book production, including book development, editorial, design, printing, marketing, and sales.
  • Suggested timelines and budgets for publishing a book.
  • Workshop zine that includes all workshop content, reference material, and suggested media for continued publishing education.ย 

Notes

  • Registration is required and limited to 15 participants.ย 
  • BCP Patreon Members (Star Cactus level and above) may attend this workshop for free and receive priority registration until March 15th 11:59 PM PST. Members can register by emailing bluecactuspress@gmail.com directly.
  • Non-members interested in participating should register as soon as possible and pay the full workshop fee. Non-members will be waitlisted if registration fills before March 15th.ย

About the Facilitator

Chris/tina Vega (they/them) is the founder of Blue Cactus Press. They’re also a Queer Chicana poet with a passion for storytelling and community involvement. Christina has published over 20 books in their eight years as the pubilsher of Blue Cactus Press. They also published their sophomore poetry collection, Vega, in September 2023. Their debut poetry collection, Still Clutching Maps, was published in 2017.

Their poetry has appeared in Creative Colloquy, Frontera Vol. 3: estados silvestres // natural states,ย  International Poetry Review, Papeachu Issue 3, Timberline Review, WA129+, We Need a Reckoning;ย and at Milk Gallery.

Chris/tinaโ€™s journalism has appeared in City Arts, Grit City Magazine, Hilltop Action Journal, OLY ARTS, The Ranger, VOICE Magazine and Weekly Volcano.
