218 St. Helens Ave
The first Tacoma reading from WA129, an anthology of poems gathered from the people of Washington State will be on Thursday, May 24th, 2018 at 7 PM at Kings Books at 218 St. Helens Avenue in Tacoma.
Collected and curated by recent State Poet Laureate Tod Marshall (2016-2018), the anthology includes work from experienced poets and newcomers to the art, young students and lifetime learners. There are 129 poems in the published book, one for every year of statehood up to 2018, the end of Marshall’s term as State Poet Laureate.
The reading features five Tacoma poets included in the anthology: Allen Braden, Robert Hasselblad, Kristin Orlando, Carl Palmer, Philip Red Eagle, and Connie Walle.
They will be joined by other South Sound poets whose work appears in WA129: LauraFalsetti, Carolyn Gilman, Merna Hecht as well as special guests, former WA State Poet Laureate Elizabeth Austen (2014-2016) and current WA State Poet Laureate Claudia Castro Luna (2018-2020).
