The third Wednesday of every month, poets and poetry lovers gather at Traditions Café, 300 5th Ave. SW, in downtown Olympia to celebrate, read and listen to live poetry. The public is welcome and invited to attend.
Wednesday evening meetings begin with an “Open Mic,” in which ten people are given the opportunity to read poems for 3 minutes apiece. Readers are encouraged to rehearse their work so they don’t exceed the limit and use someone else’s time.
Open Mic ends at 7:00 pm, and after a short break, a featured poet reads their own work, and often talks about inspiration and the poetic process. They often have books and chapbooks for sale.
