The third Wednesday of every month poets and poetry lovers gather at Traditions Café, 300 5th Ave. SW, in downtown Olympia to celebrate, read and listen to live poetry. The public is welcome and invited to attend.
Wednesday evening meetings begin with an Open Mic:
Ten people are given the opportunity to read poems for 3 minutes apiece. Readers are encouraged to rehearse their work so they don’t exceed the limit and use someone else’s time. A Sign-up Sheet is available at the table by the front door of the cafe’ at 6:00 pm, and once it is filled, there is a separate Wait List. If you read the previous month, we ask that you sign up on the Wait List in case someone who hasn’t read recently needs a spot.
Open Mic ends at 7:00 pm, and after a short break, a featured poet reads their own work, and often talks about inspiration and the poetic process. They often have books and chapbooks for sale. To see the next featured reader, check out our Events Page.
A monthly donation of $5.00 is suggested and appreciated.
